Welcome to "Classroom to College/Careers" online course.    In this course you will learn how to create a career grid in which you will:
bulletExamine and categorize careers by an interest assessment, the Holland Code.
bulletMatch students' interests to careers
bulletIdentify high school courses, clubs and out-of-school activities to careers.
bulletFind specific college majors which will prepare your students for these careers.
bulletIdentify employers who will hire our students after high school and college.
bulletIdentify  professional associations related to these career areas.
bulletCreate curriculum templates to answer the questions, "Why am I studying this topic?"

 

This course meets the New York State Career Development and Occupational Standards.  These standards require all educators to make students aware of the following:

bullet#1  Career Development:  Students will be knowledgeable about the world of work.

                 Translation:  The teacher, will provide self assessment and career information about the work world.

bullet#2  Integrated Learning:  Students will demonstrate how academic knowledge and skills are applied in the workplace and other settings.  

                Translation:   The teacher will show the students how what is being learned in the

                 classroom  is used in  the work world.

bullet#3a Universal Foundation Skills:  Students will demonstrate mastery of the foundation skills and competencies essential for success in the workplace. 
bullet#3b  Career Majors:  Students will be knowledgeable about careers and the appropriate entrance requirements.

           Translation:  The teacher will identify appropriate career opportunities related to the instructional material.
