Choosing A Career Is Child's Play

3 credits; 45 hours

Assisting your students in making sound choices for future career goals is based upon self-assessment and career exploration.  You can aid your students in this process through applying analytical research of children's playtime behavior.   Much research has been conducted focusing on the games children play produce indicators for future academic choices and career paths.   The New York State Learning Standards requests that all educators, K - 12, assist their students in this process.  The Career and Occupational Development Standards calls for each student to prepare and update a career plan three times during the thirteen years of school.

This course will prepare the educator to deliver a career plan for students at all grade levels and provide a valuable tool for understanding what path is best suited for the child.  Your insights will allow you to better assist the student in selecting academic courses, school activities, and appropriate post-secondary career paths.
